Creating a Habit
This page walks you through creating a new habit in Scope — from scratch or from a premade template.
How to Create a Habit
Tap the + button on the habit list screen. You'll have two options:
- Create from scratch — define everything yourself
- Pick a premade habit — choose from a curated library of templates with sensible defaults already configured (see Premade Habits)
What You Define
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | A short name for the habit (e.g., "Go for a run") |
| Description | No | Optional details or notes about the habit |
| Good or Bad | Yes | Whether this is a habit you want to build or break. See Good vs Bad |
| Category | Yes | Organizes the habit and determines its soldier/demon class |
| Icon | Yes | A visual icon displayed on the habit card |
| Unit | Yes | What you measure when logging (times, minutes, kg, km, etc.) |
| Completion Goal | Yes | How much counts as "done" per interval (e.g., "3 times per day") |
| Interval | Yes | How often the habit repeats. See Intervals & Show Days |
| Show Days | Yes | Which specific days the habit appears |
| Reminder | No | Optional daily reminder at a specific time |
| Stat Bonuses | No | Configure which real-life stats this habit contributes to (Strength, Intelligence, Social, Vitality, Clarity, Charisma, Willpower). Each stat can have a positive or negative bonus value |
| Banner Image | No | Optional custom banner image for the habit detail page (only for published habits) |
WARNING
Once a habit is created, you cannot change whether it is good or bad. This is locked at creation time. All other fields can be modified later.
Units of Measurement
Units define what you're measuring when you log a completion.
Built-in Units
| Type | Units |
|---|---|
| Repetition | times |
| Time | second, minute, hour |
| Weight | gram, kg |
| Volume | ml, liter |
| Length | cm, meter, km |
Custom Units
If the built-in units don't fit, you can create custom units like "pages", "glasses", or "sets". Custom units are personal to your account.
When you adopt a premade habit that uses a custom unit, that unit is copied to your account. While linked to the premade habit, the copied unit is locked (read-only). Unlinking the habit unlocks the unit for editing.
TIP
The app understands unit conversions within the same type. If your goal is "1 kg per week" and you log "500 grams", Scope knows that's 50% of your weekly goal.
Quick Start Workflow
- Tap + on the habit list
- Pick a premade habit or create from scratch
- Set an achievable interval (start small — e.g., 3 times per week)
- Choose your show days
- Optionally set a reminder for a daily nudge
- Start logging completions to build your streak and level up your soldier
