Journaling

Journaling in Scope is a reflection and planning tool woven throughout the app. You can write free-form entries, follow guided question prompts, plan your days and weeks, and reflect on your progress.

Journal

Journal entries earn XP, and daily free-write entries can be analyzed by AI to grant real-life stat points.

Where You'll Find Journaling

The journal system appears in three main places:

  • The Lifeline — plan and reflection slots on every period card
  • Goals — guided journals tied to goal milestones
  • The Adventure Journal — a dedicated page to browse and create all your entries

Entry Types

Every journal entry has a purpose that determines its role:

PurposeNameWhen to Use
Normal WriteFree WriteAnytime — write whatever's on your mind
PlanDaily PlanAt the start of a time period — set intentions and outline what you want to accomplish
RetrospectionReflectionAt the end of a time period — review what happened, what you learned, and how to improve

Each time period (day, week, month, year) can have one plan and one reflection. Free-write entries have no limit.

Creating a Journal Entry

You can create entries from three places:

From the Lifeline

Each period card in the Lifeline has two dedicated journal slots:

  1. Plan slot — always available. Tap "Create" to write a planning entry for that period
  2. Reflection slot — available near the end of the period (see Reflection Availability). Shows "Available from [date]" until unlocked

Tapping "Create" on either slot opens the Journal Type Selector.

From the Adventure Journal

The Adventure Journal page has an add button that opens the same Journal Type Selector, letting you create any type of entry for any period.

From a Goal

Goals with linked guided journals show journal prompts directly on the goal's detail page. Tapping a prompt opens the guided journal entry page pre-configured for that goal and question set.

Journal Type Selector

When creating a new entry, the Journal Type Selector guides your choices:

  1. Time Period Selection — choose Day, Week, Month, or Year (unless locked to a specific period from the Lifeline)
  2. Date/Period Picker — select which specific day/week/month/year this entry is for
  3. Writing Mode:
    • Free Write — opens a blank entry page where you write freely
    • Guided Path — shows available guided question sets filtered by the selected period type and purpose

INFO

When opened from a Lifeline plan or reflection slot, the time period and purpose are pre-selected — you just choose between free write and guided.
