Recurring Tasks
Scope's tasks are one-shot by design. If you want something to recur, you have two good options: create a new task each time it comes up, or use a habit instead.

Why Tasks Don't Recur
The tasks system intentionally doesn't support recurrence. Scope already has a recurring-action system - habits - and they're better suited to repeated patterns:
- Habits track streaks and HP percentages over time.
- Good habits spawn soldier companions that level up with your consistency.
- Habit completions grant quest passes each day.
If tasks also recurred, they'd overlap awkwardly with habits - same pattern, different reward structure, no clear reason to use one over the other. Keeping tasks one-shot and habits recurring draws a clean line.
What to Use Instead
| If you want... | Use |
|---|---|
| "Water the plants every Monday" | A habit scheduled on Mondays |
| "Call mom every Sunday" | A habit on Sundays |
| "Take medicine daily" | A habit with daily show days |
| "Pay quarterly taxes" | A new task each quarter (or a reminder in your calendar) |
| "Book the dentist appointment" | A one-shot task |
If the action is something you want to build into your life (exercise, reading, meditation, calling family), it's a habit. If it's something you need to get done once (paperwork, errands, specific calls), it's a task.
Recurring Tasks vs Habits
The two systems look similar but reward differently:
| Recurring as a Habit | As New Tasks | |
|---|---|---|
| Per completion | 1 silver, soldier XP, possibly quest pass | 1 silver |
| Tracks streaks | Yes | No |
| Tracks HP | Yes | No |
| Produces a soldier | Yes (if good) | No |
| Visible on habit list | Yes | No |
| Feels like... | A practice you're building | A chore you're checking off |
A habit rewards consistency over time. A task rewards completion per instance. Pick whichever matches how you actually think about the action.
What to Do With Your Existing Recurring Mental Model
If you're coming from another app that supported recurring tasks, the migration is:
- Habits - for the things you'd want to track as a streak.
- One-shot tasks - for the quarterly, annual, or "this week only" items.
- Lifegrid monthly or yearly tab - for bigger recurring items like "quarterly review" - one task per occurrence.
It's a small shift in mental model, but the separation makes each system clearer over time.
